The locals said that traffic jams are getting worse with each passing day owing to dilapidated roads in Srinagar as well. They said the dug-up roads have made navigation through Downtown and other Srinagar areas inconvenient.

“Nowpora road has been thrown open for traffic despite having open manholes and crates. This poses a risk of accidents,” said Abdul Hamid, a commuter.

The commuters said that in the absence of traffic management, riders and minors with vehicles had a free run on the roads. SSP Traffic City, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah said that in view of Eid, there was a huge influx of traffic, which resulted in traffic jams.

“Over the past week, there have been holidays, and gardens like the tulip garden witnessed a huge rush, which also triggered traffic jams in other routes. We are doing our best to ensure smooth traffic flow, and in the next couple of days, there will be a visible change in traffic jams. We are monitoring the situation and deploying our resources accordingly,” Shah said.
