Massive fire engulfs over five houses in Shaheed Gunj Srinagar

Srinagar, Mar 22: A massive fire broke out in the Shaheed Gunj area of Srinagar on Saturday morning, engulfing more than five residential houses.

An official said the blaze started in the early hours and quickly spread to several houses.

"As soon as the Fire and Emergency Services received the information, firefighting teams were dispatched to the area. However, before they could reach the spot, around five residential houses had already been engulfed in flames, which later spread to other structures," the official said.

The exact number of damaged houses is still being assessed, he added.

Teams from the Fire and Emergency Services, along with SHO Shaheed Gunj Hilal Darzi and personnel from the 49 BN CRPF, swiftly reached the site and worked tirelessly to contain the fire.

Their prompt action prevented the flames from spreading further, averting a larger disaster.

Authorities have taken cognizance of the incident, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. (JKNS)
