Masjid among several structures gutted in Srinagar blaze

Srinagar, June 24: Several commercial structures and a Masjid were gutted after a massive fire broke out in the Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar on Monday, officials said.

An official said that soon after the incident fire tenders reached the spot to douse off the fire. “By the time the fire tenders reached, Bazar Masjid had suffered extensive damage,” he said.

He said within no time the fire spread to nearby commercial establishments, causing huge damage to structures.

The district Police Srinagar along with the teams of Fire and Emergency Services as well as the locals launched an extensive rescue operation to control the blaze.

Srinagar Police in a post on X, said that the extensive rescue operation was launched to contain the blaze.

"Extensive ongoing rescue operation by Srinagar Police along with teams of F&ES and locals to contain the massive fire that erupted in Bohri Kadal Masjid and surrounding areas today afternoon," Srinagar Police wrote.

The official said there were no casualties or injuries reported in the fire incident, and added “the cause of the fire is being ascertained”.
