Market checks intensify in Kangan during Ramadhan
Kangan, Mar 25: Food safety authorities have ramped up market inspections in the Kangan sub-division of Ganderbal district during the holy month of Ramadan, targeting potential profiteering and ensuring consumer protection. A dedicated team from the Ganderbal Food Safety Department conducted a comprehensive market check in Gund tehsil on Tuesday, focusing on preventing black marketing and maintaining quality standards for essential commodities.
During the inspection, officials imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on non-compliant shopkeepers, destroyed expired food items and rotten fruits and vegetables, and collected legal samples for laboratory analysis.
Fayaz Ahmad, Food Safety Officer in Kangan, stated that these market checks are crucial to ensure consumers receive quality products at government-approved rates. He emphasised that such drives will continue in the future to maintain market integrity and protect consumer interests.
The initiative aims to safeguard consumers' rights, particularly during the sensitive period of Ramadan when demand for essential commodities typically increases.
