Market checking intensified ahead of Ramadhan in Sopore
Sopore, Feb 17: Ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan, Sopore Police on Tuesday conducted an extensive market inspection drive across major commercial hubs in Police District Sopore to ensure the availability of essential commodities at fair prices.
The inspection was carried out in coordination with the concerned departments and other stakeholders as part of a proactive effort to safeguard consumer interests during the festive season. Joint teams visited key markets and inspected shops dealing in essential commodities, including food grains, fruits, vegetables, bakery items, meat and other Ramzan-related products.
During the drive, officials placed special emphasis on verifying updated rate lists, preventing overpricing, maintaining quality standards and ensuring hygiene and cleanliness. Traders were checked for compliance with government-approved price lists and transparency in transactions.
Shopkeepers were directed to prominently display updated rate lists within their establishments and strictly adhere to approved prices. They were also cautioned against hoarding, black marketing or engaging in unfair trade practices that could create artificial shortages or inconvenience consumers during the holy month.
Officials said the primary objective of the inspection was to maintain price stability and ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential goods, enabling residents to observe Ramzan without facing undue financial burden or scarcity of daily necessities.
Police authorities reiterated that such inspection drives will continue throughout the month of Ramdhan in coordination with relevant departments to uphold transparency, accountability and public welfare.
