Margan Top road closed after fresh snowfall in higher reaches of J&K
Anantnag, May 31: The only road connecting the picturesque region of Marwah and Warwan in Kishtwar district with Anantnag has been closed due to heavy snowfall at Margan Top, bringing traffic to a complete halt.
Located at an elevation of approximately 13,000 feet above sea level, Margan Top serves as the lifeline for thousands of residents living in the remote valleys of Marwah and Warwan in Kishtwar district.
Every year, this crucial route remains blocked for four to five months due to heavy snowfall, causing immense hardship for the local population. The seasonal isolation severely impacts access to healthcare, education, and essential supplies for these mountainous communities.
Reports from Warwan indicate that the upper reaches of the valley have received above one feet of fresh snowfall. There are also unconfirmed reports of livestock deaths in the high-altitude areas of Sukhnai and Margi.
Mohammad Amin from Sukhnai, last village of Warwan tehsil told Greater Kashmir over phone that local residents rescued a number of nomads families trapped in snowfall but a number of livestock died due to heavy snowfall.
However official confirmation regarding the livestock losses is still awaited.
