Man charred to death in late-night fire in Kupwara

Kupwara, Dec 09: A Sikh man was charred to death after a devastating late-night fire broke out at his residence in main town Kupwara.

According to eyewitnesses, raging flames suddenly erupted from deceased's house at around 10:15 pm on Tuesday night. "At the time of the incident, deceased was asleep inside his room on the first floor of his house. Although we rushed to alert Fire and Emergency Services, but by the time the raging flames were brought under control, he had already been charred to death," said an eyewitness.

Another eyewitness described the incident as heartbreaking, saying the fire spread rapidly and left the family and the entire locality in deep shock.

The deceased has been identified as Rinku Singh, a well-known local watch repairer who owned a shop near Gurudwara Kupwara.

A senior Police officer confirmed to Greater Kashmir about the death of the person and said that investigation has been set into motion to verify the actual cause of his death.
