Man axes woman to death in Handwara: Police

Kupwara, Apr 26: A pall of gloom descended in Chogal Handwara on Friday afternoon when a man attacked a woman with an axe resulting in her death.

A senior police official said that the woman who happened to be his follower had arrived early morning at the man’s residence in Chogal Handwara. “Initial enquiry suggests that the woman was attacked by him in his room with an axe. The woman received severe head injuries and was immediately evacuated to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara but she succumbed to her injuries,” the officer told Greater Kashmir.

“We have arrested the accused and the weapon of offence has also been seized,” he added.

“Prima facie suggests that the accused is a mentally unsound man so we will examine his mind first following which a case will be established against him,” he added.

According to locals the accused named as Ghulam Rasool @Las Bab was visited by people from across Kashmir all through these years.

Meanwhile the deceased who is a divorce has been identified as Atiqa Begum (60) resident of Magam Handwara. She is survived by her two children.
