Man arrested for setting trees on fire in forest in Kupwara area

Kupwara, July 25: A man accused of setting forest on fire in the Kalaroose area of Kupwara was arrested, an official said on Thursday.

He said that during a routine inspection, forest officials apprehended an individual in connection with a forest fire in the 114 N L Kalaroose beat, north Lolab Range, Kamraj Forest Division.

"The accused was subsequently handed over to Police Post Kalaroose for lodgement of FIR,” he said.

Meanwhile, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kamraj, Anurag Arya, confirmed the arrest of the accused and said that strict action will be taken against the person.

Arya said that those involved in the heinous crime will face severe punishment. Pertinently Kupwara has witnessed first such case where a person has been booked for setting forest on fire.
