Kupwara, Feb 29: Unaware that his mother will never come back, three year old Aurangzaib is weeping and continuously looking for his mother in the courtyard. Those arriving to mourn the death of his mother can't bear the pain of the minor. His maternal grandmother tries to console him but to no avail.

Earlier a pall of gloom descended on the whole Mawer area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after a man killed his wife in Checki-Audoora village.

The incident sent shock waves across Kashmir after the news unfolded on Thursday morning.

A relative of the deceased said that the incident occurred on Wednesday late night after a scuffle broke out between the duo and consequently the accused killed his wife with a sharp edged weapon, following which the accused left the scene and handed himself over to police in Qalamabad.

He said that the accused would every winter go out of Kashmir to earn his livelihood. "He returned a few days ago and today this incident occurred, leaving the family devastated," he said.

Later relatives of the deceased female held a protest in Qalamabad and demanded strict action against the accused.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Mir resident of Cheki-Audoora, Mawer.

Meanwhile police in a statement said, "Today, Police Station Qalamabad received information that one person, namely Mohammad Maqbool Mir, resident of Chak Audoora, has murdered his wife. Consequently, FIR under section 302 IPC was registered at PS Qalamabad. The accused has been arrested in the instant case. The weapon of offence has also been seized. The investigation of the case is in progress and will be conducted in a thorough, professional manner,".

"The investigation is currently underway, and the Handwara Police assures the public that it will be conducted with the utmost professionalism and diligence to ensure justice prevails. Further updates on the case will be shared as the investigation progresses" reads the statement further.
