Major accident averted by army, police in Ramsu
Ramban, July 2: Army along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police averted a major tragedy on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway , as a vehicle moving from Kashmir to Hoshiarpur, Punjab lost control due to brake failurea t the Nachlana area of Ramsu on Tuesday afternoon.
Official sources said 10 Amarnath pilgrim, who were returning from the Amarnath yatra were injured when they jumped out of a moving bus bearing registration number PB02BM-9389 near an Army camp in the Nachlana area of Ramsu in Ramban district.
The incident happened when the driver of the vehicle applied brakes and found brakes of the vehicle failed.
Security forces deployed alongside the National Highway, including the Army stationed in the area, noticed passengers jumping out from a moving vehicle immediately swung into action and somehow managed to stop the bus by placing stones on the road. Army and Police spokespersons said jawans of the Indian Army along with Jammu and Kashmir Police persons attempted to slow down and finally stop the Bus from plunging into the nallah by placing stones beneath the tyres of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the 40 passengers travelling in the bus panicked and started to jump out of the vehicle to save their lives in the process ten of them were injured.
The injured persons included six men, three women and a child.
The Army Quick Reaction Teams, (QRT), along with Ambulance reacted instantly and provided medical assistance and first aid to all the ten injured persons at Medical Aid (MI), the medical facility of the Army at Nachalana. Police said after providing medical aid at Nachlana all the injured shifted to PHC Ramsoo where doctors said the injured are stable.
