Maid arrested for stealing jewellery from Srinagar home: J-K Police

Srinagar, Jan 17: Police on Friday said a maid was arrested for stealing jewellery from a house in the HMT area of Srinagar.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said that a complaint was received at Shalteng police station from a woman who alleged that unknown thieves struck at her parents’ home while they were away for performing Umrah during the intervening night of January 15 and 16.

In her complaint, she said that some jewellery items were stolen.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 04/2025 under the relevant section of law was registered at Police Station Shaltang and an investigation was initiated, read the statement.

“During the course of the investigation, some suspects were called for questioning, and the role of one suspect, namely Janatul Begum (working as the maid) wife of Mohd Chotu resident of Ward No. 7 Kusthan Madhepur Bihar A/P HMT Srinagar, was ascertained in the commission of crime,” added the statement.

“Upon her disclosure, the stolen Jewellery was recovered,” said the spokesperson, adding that the case was solved within 24 hours.
