Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava to take over as GOC 15 Corps today
Srinagar, Oct 4: Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai will demit office of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the strategic 15 Corps on Saturday while Lt General Prashant Srivastava will take over the command on Saturday.
Lt Gen Ghai has been posted as the new Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi.
“Lt Gen Ghai will demit office on Saturday and Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava will be taking over as the GOC 15 Corps on Saturday,” sources in the Army said.
Army Headquarters had cleared Lt Gen Srivastava as the new 15 Corps Commander in July.
The 15 Corps based in Srinagar looks after the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the anti-terrorism operation in Kashmir.
Having vast experience tackling insurgency, Lt Gen Srivastava was earlier posted as Major General in the Military Secretary Branch at Integrated Headquarters of Army (Ministry of Defence) before posting as GOC 15 Corps.
Before his posting at Army Headquarters, Lt Gen Srivastava was General Officer Commanding (GOC) Victor Force and he was relieved by Major General Balbir Singh third of week June 2023 as head of Counter-Insurgency Victor Force.
Lt General Srivastava was commissioned into an elite Parachute Battalion of the Special Forces on June 9, 1990.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the General Officer has attended all-important career courses including Defence Services Staff Courses Wellington (Tamil Nadu), Higher Command Course and National Defence College (USA).
He has an M Sc in Strategic Studies and a Masters of Philosophy to his credit.
The General Officer has vast operational experience having served in intense counter-insurgency environments in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and the North East.
Lt General Srivastava was awarded the Sena Medal in 2011 while commanding his unit.
He has held various important staff appointments before assuming the command of the prestigious 15 Corps Commander.
