Low-intensity avalanche hits Gulmarg
Baramulla, Feb 5: A low-intensity avalanche hit the Affarwat areas of Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday, an official said.
He said that no loss of life or injury had been reported in the incident.
An official said that around four skiers were in the area at the time of the avalanche, however, none of them was trapped in the low-intensity avalanche.
“The avalanche occurred in Affarwat, Gulmarg on Monday afternoon. It was a low-intensity avalanche and no one was injured in the incident,” he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authorities (JKDMA) on Monday issued an avalanche warning for eight districts of J&K.
They advised people to avoid venturing in avalanche-prone areas till further orders.
“Avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2400 metres over Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara districts in next 24 hours,” a JKDMA advisory read. “Also an avalanche with medium danger level is likely to occur above 2200 metres over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban, and Ganderbal districts in the next 24 hours.”
The residents of these areas have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche-prone areas.
