LoP Sunil Sharma calls on Home Minister Amit Shah, raises key J&K issues
New Delhi, Feb 9: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, Friday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed a range of pressing issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
A statement of the BJP issued here said that during the meeting, Sharma highlighted the growing menace of drug and narcotics abuse in J&K, stressing the urgent need for a comprehensive strategy to tackle the rising addiction crisis.
He also pitched for key mega-projects in Jammu province, particularly in the sectors of road connectivity and tourism, seeking the Centre’s intervention for their swift execution.
Sharma also underlined the importance of strengthening Village Defence Committees (VDCs) and Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in J&K, citing their crucial role in combating terrorism.
He drew the Home Minister’s attention to the recent terror attacks, including the killing of an ex-serviceman’s family in Kulgam, and sought complete rehabilitation and educational support for the affected families.
The BJP statement said that the Home Minister assured every possible assistance in addressing the issues raised by Sharma.
It said that Shah committed to meeting all BJP MLAs from J&K soon, a move aimed at reinforcing the party’s presence in the region and addressing lawmakers’ concerns.
The upcoming budget session of the J&K Assembly, the prevailing political scenario, and law and order issues, particularly in the Jammu district, also came up for discussion during the meeting.
