Kupwara, Dec 7: The residents of Dilbagh Diver in Lolab area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are grappling with acute shortage of water resulting in hardships to the inhabitants.

The residents alleged that the authorities have failed to provide them regular water supply forcing them to rely on nearby contaminated water sources.

"We have been getting tap water two days in a week for the last several months forcing us to use contaminated water from a local stream but authorities seem to be watching our sufferings as mute spectators," said a woman.

“The concerned department has miserably failed to provide regular water supply to over hundred households. In fact the department has taken us for a ride and is doing nothing to mitigate our problem,” added the woman.

The residents said that they have taken up this issue with the concerned officials numerous times but to no avail.

They have now sought immediate intervention of Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Lolab Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in this regard and hoped redressal of their genuine grievances soon.

Meanwhile a senior official of Jal Shakti Department Lolab said that Dilbagh Diver village gets water from a pond situated in the forest area. "Due to the dry spell, the water level of the pond has lowered  with the result, the department is unable to supply water on a daily basis," he added.
