Locals cast vote in Ganderbal’s last village

Happiness knew no bounds for voters of the remote Sarbal village which is the last village of Ganderbal district, located 80 km from Ganderbal headquarters falling in Kangan assembly constituency, which is part of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

For the first time, they had the opportunity to exercise their franchise at a polling booth set up in their village.

There was enthusiasm among the villagers to cast their vote at a polling booth in their village without having to travel several kilometres or face the vagaries of weather or the difficult terrain, unlike in the past.

“We had no option but to cover long distances to cast a vote as the polling station used to be in a village several kilometres away. We are happy that finally a polling booth was set up in our village this year,” said Abdul Jabbar, a voter of the Sarbal area.

An elderly voter from Sarbal, the last village of Ganderbal, was thrilled to cast his vote in his village for the first time.

“We are happy that the polling station has been set up here for our convenience. It had all the facilities available and the people exercised their franchise without any hardships,” said an elderly person Abdul Gani.

Officials said that there were 320 registered voters at polling station 105- Sarbal of which 152 votes were polled.

Among them were many first-time voters and elderly persons.

Meanwhile, locals thanked the Election Commission of India (CEI), the election authority in Jammu and Kashmir, and the district administration of Ganderbal, particularly Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir for this.
