Locals block Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch NH over landslide concerns

Rajouri, Jul 23: Lodging their protest, locals in Narian, Rajouri, blocked the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway, expressing their frustration over the lack of concern shown by the agency responsible for the highway's upgradation work.

The protesters cited the recent landslide in the area as a major concern, which they claimed was a result of poor drainage systems and heavy rainfall.

The locals alleged that the rainwater was seeping into agricultural fields below, causing land subsidence and putting many houses at risk of collapse.

The protesters kept the main highway blocked for a considerable period, causing disruptions to traffic. After negotiations with authorities, the protesters agreed to lift the blockade.

The authorities assured the locals that their concerns would be addressed and measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
