LoC explosion Death of porter sparks protest in Nowshera
Rajouri, Mar 7: The death of a porter in an explosion on Line of Control (LoC)) yesterday sparked protest in Nowshera today.
The deceased was working as an porter with Army and was deployed on Line of Control in Makdi village falling under Bhawani police post of Nowshera sub division.
Body of deceased was brought in Sub District Hospital Nowshera on Wednesday late evening where it was kept in mortuary room while post mortem examination was conducted on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, protest erupted at Nowshera town on Thursday morning with hundreds of people from the area including relatives of deceased assembled on main town chowk and blocked it for traffic by sitting on dharna..
Raising slogans of justice, protesters said that deceased was working with army as a porter and paid his services to the country unfortunately lost his life in incident of explosion.
They said that he sacrificed his life for the country and should be given military honour of a martyr whereas adequate compensation and ex-gratia should also be provided to the victim family.
These protesters added that the unemployed youth working as porter with army put their lives in risk but stand shoulder to shoulder with an Army soldier and these porters should be given proper medical aid in army hospitals and honour like a military material alongside ex-gratia and compensation like a martyr soldier.
The protest continued for several hours during which officers of civil administration headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera BR Tandon and police officers alongwith army held multiple discussion with protesters and finally the protest was called off.
