LMD penalises Amazon seller with Rs 1 lakh penalty

Kulgam, Aug 20: In a significant step towards ensuring consumer rights and fair trade practices in the e-commerce sector, Legal Metrology Department, Kulgam has imposed a penalty of Rs.1 lakh on a leading Amazon seller for violation of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

The penal action follows an intensive inspection which revealed that the seller was displaying inflated net quantity on the product listings in the e-commerce marketplace while delivering reduced actual contents to consumers.

This deceptive practice was found to be in contravention of packaging and labeling requirements mandated under the said rules.
