Baramulla, Apr 13: The vital link road from Balkote to Hathlanga area along the LoC in Uri area of Baramulla district is in shambles and is causing immense hardships to the residents of the border villages.

The locals said the link road was constructed by the PMGSY department and the macadamisation of the road was done in 2021 as well. "However, the link road has developed potholes and is still in a dilapidated state."

The local residents complained that the PMGSY department neglected the road in terms of its maintenance. The locals said that around Rs 5.25 crore rupees were spent on the construction of the road and it was supposed to complete 12 kilometers instead of which work was done for only six kilometers.

"In one of our areas, a three kilometre stretch is yet to be constructed. There are no drainage systems or walls constructed on this link road due to which the road is lying in dilapidated condition," said Rustum Ahmad, a local resident of the area.

The locals said the poor condition of the road poses significant difficulties for the public as it is the lone source of connectivity in this remote area.

"As the condition of the road is dilapidated, no public transport is plying to our village. And those who have their personal cars avoid driving due to the bumpy road," said Manzoor Ahmad, another local.

The local residents have urged the J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) and the district administration Baramulla for their intervention into the matter so that the renovation work gets started on the road.

Executive Engineer PMGSY Uri Division, Zahoor Ahmad Budoo was not available for comments on the issue.
