Light rain, snow expected on higher reaches of Kashmir in next 24 hours
Srinagar, Nov 10: The Meteorological Department has predicted light snowfall and rainfall in the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir over the next 24 hours, with a steep drop in temperatures adding a sharp contrast to an otherwise unusually warm year.
The change in forecast comes after a prolonged dry spell. Farmers have been advised by the MeT to safely store harvested crops and proceed with caution in other farm operations to prevent crop damage due to moisture.
On Sunday, Kashmir recorded a noticeable drop in temperatures, with Srinagar and Kupwara recording a high of 17.3 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund and Gulmarg reported 16.7 and 14.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Jammu, being warmer, reached 26.4 degrees Celsius.
These figures signal a significant decline, considering the unseasonal heat waves and prolonged dry weather conditions that affected Kashmir earlier this year.
Throughout the summer and early autumn, Kashmir faced prolonged warm spells. While the current forecast suggests a chance of precipitation in mid-November, concerns about prolonged dry spells remain. After this brief spell of light rain or snow, generally dry weather is expected to prevail from November 17-21.
