Jammu, Feb 29:  Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Thursday urged the authorities to improve public service delivery mechanism and called for quickly resolving public complaints and implementing welfare schemes transparently and speedily.

Interacting with the people and listening to their grievances during ‘LG’s Mulaqaat’, a live public grievance hearing programme of the LG at the civil secretariat here, the LG said, “We should strive to improve the public service delivery mechanism. There should also be a quick resolution to public complaints and speedy and transparent implementation of welfare schemes to enhance capabilities of the citizens.”

He sought details of complaints received on the JKIGRAMS portal and Action Taken Report (ATR) on public outreach programmes from the concerned Administrative Secretaries, Deputy Commissioners, and senior officials.

Sinha directed the officials to assess the public outreach programmes and take corrective measures for efficient redressal of grievances.

“All the initiatives should serve the common good and decisions should be implemented without fear or favour,” he said.

The LG impressed upon the officials to take dedicated measures and focus on strengthening both physical and social capital.

Addressing the grievances received from the citizens, he passed explicit directions for the rationalisation of teachers, especially in schools located in far-flung areas.

“No single-teacher school across J&K should be ensured,” Sinha said.

He directed for effective functioning of borewells and hand pumps, besides strengthening the power transmission and distribution infrastructure and addressing the issues of low tension network and loose hanging electric wires.

The Deputy Commissioners (DC) were instructed to ensure that areas that require necessary intervention as far as power infrastructure is concerned are covered under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

On the complaint of Muhammad Iqbal from Uri, Baramulla, about the construction of the girls hostel near Government Higher Secondary School Pehlipora, the DC Baramulla informed the LG that the remaining construction work would be completed soon and the hostel would be operationalised within a month.

A complainant Sohail Khan from Jammu drew the attention of the administration on the issue of the functioning of the ticket counter and other facilities at Bus Stand Jammu.

The LG directed the Divisional Commissioner, JMC Commissioner, JDA, Traffic Police, Transport Department and other stakeholder departments to take concrete measures to ensure the facilities at the Bus Stand Jammu and Multi-tier Parking are working properly and are available to the people.

Addressing a grievance filed by Jashan Sambyal of Thalora Mandi, Samba regarding the dilapidated condition of the Sumb road, the LG directed the concerned DC and officials to redress the issue at the earliest.

DC Samba informed the LG that the work on this road was expected to be completed by April end of this year.

Secretary, Public Grievances, Syed Sehrish Asgar conducted the proceedings of the LG’s Mulaqaat.

Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo; Additional Chief Secretary Forests, Dheeraj Gupta; Administrative Secretaries; Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, HoDs, and other senior officers were present during the interaction, in person, and through virtual mode.
