LG to review security, development today
Srinagar, Nov 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will on Sunday chair a high-level meeting to review both the developmental and security scenario in the Kashmir division.
Among those in attendance will be Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from Kashmir districts.
Also present will be Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Special DGP Coordination, Police Headquarters, Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani, Additional Director General of Police (CID) Nitish Kumar, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Anshul Garg, and DIGs of all three ranges.
According to official sources, the meeting will focus on the security scenario in Kashmir as well as developmental issues, particularly in the context of upcoming winter conditions.
DGP Nalin Prabhat will brief the LG on the prevailing security situation in the Kashmir division and outline the steps being taken to dismantle the terror ecosystem in the Valley.
At Sunday’s meeting, the agenda will include a status report on recent anti-terror operations, intelligence gathering, and the support network of terrorists operating in the Kashmir division.
A review of district-wise security preparedness for the winter, including the predicted spells of snowfall and the accompanying logistic, rescue, and relief requirements, will also be held.
Examination of progress on developmental projects across Kashmir, with an emphasis on infrastructure, connectivity, power supply, and civilian welfare to further strengthen peace‐development linkage, would also be done.
During the meeting, coordination between civil administration and security agencies to ensure that the twin objectives of growth and stability are pursued in tandem will also be discussed.
“The violence has come down, and efforts are underway to target the remnants of the terror-ecosystem in J&K. The winter strategy to tackle terror will also be discussed. Besides, steps taken to deal with winter will be discussed as there are predictions of likely spells of snowfall,” a senior security establishment official said here.
The DCs and SSPs are expected to present district-specific reports during the meeting, detailing progress on project implementation, local security challenges, cold-weather readiness, including snow clearance, power backup, evacuations, and how intelligence-led policing is being scaled up.
According to top officials, the winter months pose a dual challenge. “Firstly, there is a heightened risk of infiltration or militant movement in snow-bound terrain,” they said. “Secondly, there is a possibility of disruption to infrastructure and civilian life due to weather.”
The administration intends to preemptively coordinate rescue protocols, power grid protections, and ensure that remote areas remain connected and secure, the top officials said.
