LG to chair high-level security review meeting in Srinagar today
Srinagar, Feb 11: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will chair a high-level security meeting in Srinagar on Wednesday to review the overall security situation and ongoing counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The high-level meeting comes just a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review to assess the security situation in J&K.
Officials said Wednesday’s meeting will follow up on key decisions taken at the Centre and review their implementation on the ground.
The meeting, scheduled to be held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar, will be attended by senior security officials including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, ADGP Armed Anand Jain, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi.
Officers from central paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, all range Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), DIGs of J&K Armed Police, Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from all districts, and Commandants of all J&K Armed Police units will also participate.
According to top officials in the security establishment, the meeting will focus on key security concerns, including counter-terror operations, infiltration attempts, and the increasing challenge of drug abuse in Kashmir.
They said that the meeting aims to assess the effectiveness of existing security strategies and explore further measures to sustain peace in Kashmir.
“The LG will take stock of the current security situation, including recent terror-related incidents and discuss operational strategies to neutralise any potential threats,” a senior security officer said. “With the intensified anti-terror operations, several modules have been busted in recent months. The focus will be on strengthening the intelligence network and inter-agency coordination to curb any attempts to disrupt the prevailing peace.”
Apart from terrorism-related issues, officials confirmed that the growing problem of drug abuse and trafficking – especially along the Line of Control (LoC) - will be discussed.
Narcotics smuggling, often linked to terror financing, remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies.
“The nexus between terrorism and drug smuggling is a reality. The security grid is actively working to dismantle these networks. Measures to curb the flow of narcotics and take strict action against those involved will be part of the discussions,” another official said.
In light of the meeting, security arrangements in Srinagar and other sensitive areas have been tightened.
The meeting is expected to conclude with directives on intensifying counter-terror operations, enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and implementing a comprehensive strategy to tackle drug abuse in J&K.
