LG reviews J&K’s security situation at UHQ meet

Srinagar, Nov 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the functioning of the security grid and all security-related aspects in Jammu and Kashmir while chairing a Unified Headquarters meeting here Wednesday.
Besides, DGP R R Swain, top Army brass that included Chief of Staff Northern Command, General Officers Commanding (GOCs) of the Army in Jammu and Kashmir (15th, 16th, and 9th Corps), Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, Home Secretary R K Goyal, Principal Secretary to Governor and all heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir, intelligence agencies, civil and police administration in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions attended the meeting.
“Various measures being initiated to check killings of civilians in Kashmir by terrorists and the situation on the borders were discussed,” officials privy to the meeting said.
They said that during the meeting attended by the top brass of security agencies, the LG took stock of the functioning of the security grid and various aspects related to security.
Officials said that top officers of the Army, Police, and other security and intelligence agencies briefed the LG about the security situation in J&K which, they said, was fully under control.
They said that the government wants security agencies to be prepared in advance to ensure a peaceful winter in Kashmir as the flow of tourists is all set to increase.
Officials said that the meeting observed that sustained pressure on terrorists was required to be maintained.
They said that the measures taken to avoid such attacks were also discussed during the meeting.
The meeting was told that strenuous efforts jointly by different security agencies were underway to track down the terrorists involved in recent terror crimes.
Further, the meeting was also briefed that all efforts were underway to dismantle the network that was aiding the terrorists in J&K.
“The winter strategy was also discussed during the meeting,” the officials said.
They said that senior Army officials apprised the LG that to foil any attempt of infiltration, the vigil across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) has been beefed up in J&K and there is round-the-clock patrolling.
Officials said that during the meeting, the LG reiterated the unflinching resolve to the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.
They said that he also reviewed the area domination plan, zero terror policy, law and order situation, and other security-related issues.
Officials said that the LG directed the security forces to take all possible steps to protect the lives of civilians.
They said that the LG appreciated the efforts of the J&K administration and security agencies for a significant improvement in the law-and-order situation and stressed strengthening routine policing.
Officials said that the Unified Headquarters expressed confidence that normalcy that paved the way for the revival of tourist arrivals would continue to prevail in J&K.
