In the annals of history, India has often extended a hand of reconciliation to those
who relinquished violence and embraced the democratic fold. This principle,
exemplified in the case of Phoolan Devi, underscores a broader ethos of
inclusivity and democratic participation. After her surrender, Phoolan Devi not
only reformed her life but also contested and won Lok Sabha elections, becoming
a potent voice for her constituents. This historic precedent resonates profoundly
today, especially in the context of Kashmir.

In Kashmir, several organizations were marginalized through systematic
disenfranchisement and political marginalization. However, the time has come to
afford these groups the opportunity to participate fully in the democratic process.
By allowing them to contest upcoming elections and garner support based on
their policies and agendas, Kashmir can pave the way for authentic
representation.

This move is not merely symbolic but essential for fostering a pluralistic and
inclusive political environment in the region.
The era of orchestrated political leadership, influenced by external actors or
agendas, must give way to genuine, homegrown leadership that reflects the
aspirations and priorities of the Kashmiri people. The days of political
intermediaries and brokers manipulating the regions;s political landscape are over.
Kashmir deserves leaders who are accountable directly to their constituents, not
to external forces or self-serving interests.
In Kashmir a few organisations were pushed to the wall by hatching conspiracies.
These organisations should be allowed to contest forthcoming elections. If they
become a part of the system it could prove to be a major victory for democracy in
Kashmir.

System created leaders are not required now. Let the real leadership take the
control under the Constitution of India. Scamsters, corrupt leaders don’t fit in
J&K’s political scene anymore. Let people choose their representatives.
Central to this transformation is the steadfast adherence to the Constitution of
India. By empowering Kashmiris to choose their leaders within the constitutional
framework, India reaffirms its commitment to democratic principles and the rule
of law. The constitutional provisions provide a robust framework within which
diverse voices and opinions can flourish, ensuring that every citizen;s rights are
safeguarded and respected.

The political terrain of Jammu and Kashmir must be cleansed of the stain of
corruption and malfeasance. Leaders tainted by scandal or engaged in corrupt
practices have no place in Kashmirs political future. People have endorsed the
change by reposing their faith in the government. Now, it’s the time to let people
take the reins.

The electorate, empowered by their democratic rights, must assertively reject
such leaders who want to hijack the democratic process for their personal gain.
Instead, the focus should be on leaders who are committed to serving the public
interest, advancing developmental agendas, and fostering peace and prosperity in
the region.

Inclusive governance hinges on the active participation of all stakeholders,
including those who have been historically sidelined or marginalized. The
forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir present a pivotal moment
to recalibrate the political landscape, ensuring that it reflects the diversity and
complexity of Kashmiri society.

Genuine leadership emerges not from coercion or external influence but from the
grassroots support and legitimacy garnered through free and fair elections.
Civil society organizations have a crucial role to play in supporting this democratic
transition. Their advocacy for transparent electoral processes, human rights
protection, and inclusive political participation can bolster the legitimacy of
Kashmir and its democratic institutions.

International support, grounded in respect for India and its sovereignty and adherence
to democratic norms, reinforces the credibility of efforts to empower Kashmiris in
shaping their political destiny.

The time has come to let Kashmiris choose their representatives and leaders
freely, within the ambit of the Constitution of India. By rejecting the legacy of
political manipulation and embracing genuine democratic reform, Kashmir can
embark on a path toward inclusive governance and sustainable peace. The
empowerment of authentic leaders, untainted by corruption or external
influence is not just a political imperative but a moral obligation to uphold the
democratic aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The leaders who misled people of Kashmir for more than seven decades already stand rejected by the people. History stands testimony to the fact that India has always given a second chance
to those who embrace peace and democracy and there is no harm in giving an
opportunity to people who want to become a part and parcel of “Naya Jammu
and Kashmir.”
