Lesser voter turnout in Rajouri district

Rajouri, Sept 26: In all five assembly constituencies of border district Rajouri, where voting for assembly elections was held on Wednesday under second phase, a slight lesser voter turnout has been recorded when compared with 2014 polls.

The lowest voters turnout has been recorded in Kalakote - Sunderbani assembly constituency which stood at 68.81 percent.

The overall voter turnout in five constituencies of the district in yesterday's polls was 71.13 percent with 68.81 percent turnout in Kalakote Sunderbani assembly constituency, 72.91 percent in Nowshera, 70.56 percent in Rajouri, 70.14 percent in Budhal and 72.92 percent in Thanamandi assembly constituency.

Earlier, Rajouri district was having four assembly constituencies that included Rajouri, Darhal, Kalakote and Nowshera while the number of constituencies was increased to five after recent delimitation exercise with territorial jurisdiction of all these were also redrawn.

The overall voter turnout as well as constituency wise voters turnout in all five constituencies witnessed a decline as compared with 2014 elections.

As per analysis, Nowshera assembly constituency had recorded 79.68 percent votersturnout in 2014 polls which however remained 72.91 percent this year while against 82.45 percent voter turnout in earlier Darhal constituency in 2014 polls, only 70.14 percent has been recorded in Budhal constituency which comprise three fourth area of earlier Darhal constituency.

The Rajouri assembly constituency had recorded 76.9 percent voter turnout in 2014 polls but it declined to 70.56 percent this elections.

Alongside, the Kalakote Sunderbani assembly constituency also recorded a notable decline with only 68.81 percentvoter turnout this election while the percentage was 76.66 percent in 2014 polls.

Similarly, in Thanamandi assembly constituency, who now has areas of earlier Rajouri and Darhal constituencies, voter turnout of 72.92 percent has been registered which is lesser in area wise as compared with previous assembly elections.

The decline in voters turnout is however not much in even as there is an increase in voters turnout as compared with 2024 parliamentary polls.
