Leopard sighting creates panic in Ganderbal villages

Ganderbal, Apr 12: A leopard was spotted in different villages of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday. Reports said that a leopard was seen roaming in Wahidpora, Tulmulla areas on Thursday and later the locals also spotted a leopard in Babgund village, which is believed to be the same leopard.

The presence of a leopard has created panic among the residents of these areas. "We have been living in constant danger since the leopard was spotted . In the past the leopard has attacked several humans besides livestock."

The residents have urged the concerned authorities to take measures to trap the leopard roaming in the area.

Notably, two wildlife department officials among four people were injured in a leopard attack in Fatehpora area of Ganderbal district on Wednesday.

A wildlife department official said that they have sent traps to these areas where the information of presence of leopard has been received, adding that efforts are on to catch the leopard. They advised people to remain alert and avoid moving out during evening hours.
