Leopard found dead near LoC

Poonch, Nov 15: The body of a leopard was found lying in a water channel near the Line of Control in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district in the Pir Panjal region.

The team of the Wildlife Protection Department has taken possession of the animal’s body.

Wildlife Warden Rajouri-Poonch Range, Naveed Mirza, told Greater Kashmir that on Saturday afternoon, some locals in a village near the LoC in Mendhar spotted the body of a leopard lying near a water channel.

He said that a team of the department immediately rushed to the spot and took it into possession.

He said that in the preliminary investigation, it had been found that the animal had multiple injuries on its body.

“We have apprehension that while roaming in the area near the LoC, the leopard suffered injuries in a landmine explosion and later died due to blood loss,” he said.

The Wildlife Warden said that an investigation had been started and formalities were underway.
