Ganderbal, Sep 07: On Saturday, the authorities in Ganderbal district ordered legal action against a local National Conference (NC) worker for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during an election rally here.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, who is the Nodal Officer of Ganderbal, directed for registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against an NC leader for allegedly using the word “assassination” during his speech.

As per the official, Muhammad Ashraf Ganie, a former Sarpanch and NC member, reportedly used the word “assassination” in his speech during campaigning for the upcoming assembly polls at Kachan village in Ganderbal district.

Ashraf reportedly used the word while speaking of those who do not respect the NC flag.

In a video, which formed the basis of the complaint, Ganaie was, however, promptly stopped by Omar Abdullah beside other leaders present there and prevented from addressing the rally any further.

An official said that they had taken note of the comments, prompting the MCC Nodal Officer to take serious note of the violation and call for strict action against him.

“Legal proceedings including registration of an FIR against the said leader have been initiated and authorities are reviewing the case for further action,” an official said.

The NC has fielded former chief minister and vice president of the party, Omar Abdullah, from the Ganderbal Assembly constituency.
