Leaking water pipe creates hazardous conditions for businesses on Srinagar-Ladakh road
Srinagar, Jan 3: A water pipe leaking for over a year on the 90-feet road connecting Srinagar to Ladakh has created dangerous conditions for commuters and businesses, particularly during winter when the water freezes.
The leak, located in the middle of this crucial thoroughfare, forms frost during cold weather, causing accidents and disrupting local business operations. Shopkeepers and traders along the stretch report significant hardships due to the hazardous conditions.
The situation highlights apparent coordination failures between government departments.
Local shopkeeper Muhammad Yaseen expressed frustration with the bureaucratic response: "We have taken up the issue with concerned authorities, but one department tosses up to another and in the end, nothing gets done."
Multiple accidents and falls have been reported on the affected stretch, raising safety concerns for both pedestrians and vehicles using this important regional connection.
The 90-feet road serves as a vital link between Srinagar and Ladakh, making the prolonged infrastructure issue particularly concerning for regional transportation and commerce.
The authorities have yet to provide a timeline for repairs or clarify which department holds responsibility for addressing the leak.
