Kupwara, Jan 12: Police on Sunday evening seized large quantity of substandard and expired red chilli powder in main market Handwara area of Kupwara district.

An official said that following a specific information, a successful operation was conducted by Police. The operation resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of substandard and expired red chilli powder being sold in the market. The operation was led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Handwara Hamid Ali and Station House Officer (SHO) Handwara Sofi Vilayat.

"During the operation, 38 bags of expired and substandard red chilli powder were seized. Two persons including a non local and local were arrested and a case has been registered in this regard. Further arrests cannot be ruled out in this case," SDPO Handwara Hamid Ali told Greater Kashmir.

"The operation was aimed to safeguard public health and ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for residents. The seized consignment has been sent for further testing to verify its quality and safety" he added.

"Handwara Police remain committed to protecting the community from such practices and urge citizens to report any suspicious or substandard food items to local authorities to help maintain safety and quality standards in the region,” SDPO further said.
