Landslides hit new track to Shri Mata Vaishnodevi shrine

Jammu, Jun 23: Authorities Monday temporarily closed the new Himkoti track, leading to the holy shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi nestled in Trikuta hills in Katra of Reasi district, as it was blocked by landslides triggered by heavy rains.

However, there were no reports of any casualty. Work to clear landslides was in progress. “Landslides hit near Satya view point along the new route.

The route was temporarily closed for safety reasons and battery car service was suspended. However, the Yatra continued through the old route,” officials said. “For clearance of slide debris, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) immediately pressed men and machinery. Work was underway. Pilgrimage, however, continued without any disruption through the alternate (old) route,” they added.
