Landslide, shooting stones disrupt traffic on Sgr-Jmu NH

Ramban, Nov 13: Vehicular traffic movement remained disrupted for more than two hours on the ever-busy Srinagar Jammu National Highway (NH 44) near tunnel-T2 at Kelamorh area of Ramban on Monday afternoon.

Traffic officials said, “Following a landslide triggering shooting stones in the Kelamorh area, vehicular traffic on both sides of the Srinagar Jammu National Highway was halted at around 1.35 pm.”

A police official said that the landslide and stones also hit a valley-bound car near Kelamorh. “However, all the passengers travelling in the car escaped unhurt though the vehicle (car) has suffered extensive damage,” he said.
Officials said that later men and machinery of the concerned agency NHAI were summoned and they cleared the accumulated debris and stones from the road. “Traffic on both sides was partially restored at around 3.40 pm, after more than two hours at Kelamorh on Srinagar Jammu National Highway,” they added.

Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Police National Highway Ramban, Iftikhar Ahmed said that traffic was restored after the concerned agency cleared the landslide and stones from the road at Tunnel T2, Kelamorh this afternoon.

“People are advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking on NH 44,” he said.
Till the filing of this report, the highway was open though the traffic was moving at a slow pace at Dalwass and on the Mehar-Cafeteria stretch of the Highway.
