Ramban, Oct 11: At least ten people were injured, three of them critically, when a passenger vehicle was struck by a sudden landslide in the Sigdi Balana area of Mughal Maidan, Chatroo, Kishtwar district on Saturday morning.

According to official sources, the vehicle (Cruiser, registration number JK17-0942) was on its way from Sigdi Balana to Kishtwar when it was hit by a landslide at the Zero Point area of Sigdi Balana.

Upon receiving the information, a police team, assisted by local volunteers, rushed to the scene and rescued all the passengers. The injured were immediately shifted to the District Hospital, Kishtwar, for treatment.

Hospital authorities identified the injured as Nazir Ahmad, son of Mohammad Shafi; Ravi Kumar son of Shiv Nath, resident of Nanzla; Tanveer Ahmed son of Abdul Majeed, resident of Barnari Sigdi; Lakshmi Devi, wife of Ishar Chand, resident of Nanzla; Devan Chand, son of Krishan Lal; Gudi Devi, wife of Deepak Kumar; Sonika, daughter of Deepak Kumar; Meena Devi, wife of Sanjay Kumar; Jeevika Devi, daughter of Deepak Kumar and Renuka Devi, daughter of Devan Chand.

Doctors at the hospital confirmed that seven of the injured were stable and out of danger.

Some people were discharged after providing medical aid.

However, they said three people sustained serious injuries and required further medical attention.

Later among the three critically injured, Ravi Kumar, Tanveer Ahmed and Lakshmi Devi — were airlifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu on Saturday afternoon for specialised treatment.

MLA Kishtwar Shagun Parihar visited the District Hospital and enquired about the treatment being provided to the injured.

MLA assured the injured of providing the best treatment.

Local leader GM Saroori and PDP leader Firdous Tak expressed concern over the incident and urged health authorities to ensure the best possible care for the injured victims.
