Landslide hits Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway, disrupts traffic movement for hours

Rajouri, Apr 16: Rajouri to Poonch stretch of Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway remained closed for hours on Wednesday after a massive landslide hit Irwan-Khanetar area around six kilometres from Rajouri town.

Officials said that highway upgradation work is going on at the stretch and on Wednesday late afternoon, a massive landslide hit the area and huge debris of clay and stone fell on highway blocking it completely.

"It was fortunate that no vehicle was passing from landslide affected site at the time of incident and two vehicle had just moved over it few second ago." said locals.

Meanwhile, slide clearance and highway restoration work was launched by authorities soon after the landslide and slide debris was cleared from highway.

After three hours of hectic efforts the highway was restored, official said and added, the traffic movement from both sides remained affected during this period.
