LAND LIMBO | BOSE shows flexibility, extends class 10th exam submission deadline 2nd time

Srinagar, Dec 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) Thursday extended the last date for submission of examination forms for the second time for the class 10th students.

The move comes amid the uncertainty about the students of the private schools with land issues. Earlier, the last date for submission of class 10th examination forms for Annual Regular (2024) was fixed as December 20.

As per the notification issued by the Director Academics J&K BOSE, the date for submission of the class 10th examination forms has been further extended till December 27, 2023, for the students with five compulsory subjects and the candidates with additional or optional subjects in addition to their five compulsory subjects.

“In continuation to this office notification issued on December 13, 2023, it is hereby notified for the information of all concerned that the dates for submission of online forms for classes 10th, 11th, and 12th Annual (Regular) Examination 2024 and Renewal Registration Returns of Classes 11th and 12th of J&K and Ladakh are extended,” the JK BOSE notification reads.

"With late fees of Rs 735 per candidate, the examination forms of class 10th students will be accepted till January 5, 2024. During the second count of late fees, the forms will be accepted with late fees of Rs 1890 per candidate till January 6 of 2024,” it reads.

An official said that the date for submission of class 10th students had been extended to accommodate all the students for class 10th examination.

“The last date for classes 11th and 12th has been extended to accommodate those students who have passed the bi-annual private class 10th and class 11th examination,” the official said.

The official said that the link would remain open for Renewal Registration of class 11th and 12th students up to December 29, 2023, and the link would open from December 30, 2023, to January 4, 2024, for submission of examination forms of Classes 11th and 12th,” the official said.

Chairman BOSE Parikshat Singh Manhas said that no genuine student of class 10th would miss the upcoming annual board exam.

The issue of private schools with land issues came to light after the J&K government on April 15, 2022, amended the rules under the Education Act 2002 to provide for fresh guidelines relating to the use of land and building structures by private schools in J&K.

The amendments were made by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) in the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Rules, 2010, in the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 29 of the J&K School Education Act, 2002.
Amid the uncertainty, the School Education Department (SED) on December 19 granted affiliation in favour of Army Goodwill Schools, bringing a major relief for the students and management as well.

The School Education Department vide its official communication number No Edu-Ptsh/107/2021-01(101734) dated December 19, 2023, to Secretary J&K BOSE has approved a grant of affiliation and recognition in favour of Army Goodwill Schools across J&K.

Chairman BOSE told Greater Kashmir that they were trying to give relaxation to schools with minimal issues.
