Srinagar, Oct 9: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal Tanveer Sadiq Thursday reaffirmed the party’s commitment to provide genuine relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion, he announced that, as part of this effort, the National Conference has already introduced the “Land Grants (Restoration and Protection) Bill” in the Assembly, seeking to nullify the 2022 amendments and reinstate the 1960 Act to ensure extension of leases for local leaseholders, said a press release.

Speaking to the media, Tanveer said, “Our intention is clear, it’s to protect the rights of the poor, small traders, and local businessmen. I have already introduced a private member’s bill in the Assembly to restore leases and safeguard people’s land. The PDP’s press conference on this issue is nothing but political drama.”

He emphasised that no bill or resolution meant for the Assembly can be publicised before being tabled. “While we quietly worked for the people, PDP chose to create noise for attention. We act while they act out,” he said. Responding to statements made by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and opposition leader Sunil Sharma, Sadiq said both the PDP and BJP appear to be following the same script.

“Yesterday’s press conferences by PDP and BJP show they receive dictation from the same place. Their language and tone are identical. They no longer sound like opposition parties, but like spokespersons of the LG administration.”
