Leh, Nov 17: A comparative assessment of solar installations across Ladakh indicates a significant rise in both domestic and commercial adoption of renewable energy systems during the current year.

A local news gathering agency, KNT, reported that the data, compiled for 2025, reflects expanding capacity additions, increased rooftop installations, and a wider shift toward off-grid power solutions in Leh and Kargil.

Officials familiar with the energy overview said Ladakh has recorded notable improvement across key parameters, including the number of solar plants commissioned, capacity generated, and sector-wise installation patterns.

Domestic consumers continue to form the largest share of users, although commercial uptake has shown consistent growth.

The assessment shows that rooftop systems have gained momentum, supported by both individual households and institutional establishments opting for decentralised power generation.

In addition, off-grid systems remain an important component of Ladakh’s energy landscape due to the region’s challenging terrain and dispersed habitations.

Authorities said that the deployment trend underscores Ladakh’s strategic focus on renewable energy expansion and reduced dependence on conventional grid-based electricity.

The shift has also been supported by increased awareness among locals about the long-term benefits of solar energy, including energy stability and reduced operating costs.

While the detailed district-wise data for Leh and Kargil reflect varying degrees of progress, officials said both districts have maintained steady growth curves. The current year’s comparison provides indicators that Ladakh’s renewable energy sector is diversifying its installation profile and strengthening capacity building.

The report also highlights that broader transition targets rely on upgrading storage systems, expanding off-grid reach, and enhancing integration with existing power networks.

Authorities said continued monitoring will help guide future planning for solar expansion across Ladakh.
