Ladakh LG unfurls national flag in Leh
Kargil, Jan 26: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with national fervour and gaiety across Ladakh Union territory .
In Leh district, the main function was held at the historic Polo ground where the Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Brigadier B D Mishra (Retd) hoisted the National Flag, inspected the parade and took salute the marching contingents, including the Armed forces and school students , which took part in the march past during the event. Asking the citizens of Ladakh to take the pledge to follow the Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
“Ladakh has achieved remarkable progress in various sectors since the formation of Union Territory and we must all strive to work together to build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Ladakh" the LG said.
Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra expressed his heartfelt wishes to the people of Ladakh on the occasion of 76th Republic Day. The LG also expressed immense happiness over the posthumous recognition of Late Lama Lobzang, who was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his invaluable contributions. Lieutenant Governor, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra, also visited the Hall of Fame on the Occasion of 76th Republic Day 2025 and paid tributes to the Brave hearts who gave theirs today for our tomorrow . Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhdeve, unfurled the national tricolour at the DC Office Leh to mark the celebrations of the 76th Republic Day.
In Kargil district, The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil, where Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon unfurled the National Flag. Dr Akhoon inspected the parade at the stadium and took salute at the march past by contingents of Ladakh Police, police band party, ex-servicemen, and school contingents. Executive Councilor, Kacho Mohammad Feroz; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; SSP Shree Raam R; Commander of 121 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Prateek Prassar; along with senior officers, district officers, Councilors and representatives from various religious, political, and social organisations, district awardees, sports persons, students, artists and a large gathering of the public were also present.
In his address, Dr Akhoon congratulated people on Republic Day and emphasized the significance of January 26, 1950, when the Indian Constitution was enacted, granting the country the status of an independent democracy. The CEC highlighted the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution, emphasizing that all religions, nationalities, colours and races have equal rights without discrimination. Dr Akhoon called on people to actively participate in the development of villages, cities, and the entire country with spirit of patriotism. He paid rich tributes to the veteran soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of the nation. He said the Hill Council is dedicated to enhance and develop the district, leaving no area overlooked adding the goal is to propel the district to new heights of development. He said the Hill Council Kargil has urged Home Minister, Amit Shah to include Purgi and Balti in Ladakh's official languages, besides the other languages including Shina and Brok Skat has also been recommended for its suitable status. The Republic Day event featured colorful cultural programs and patriotic songs presented by artists from different cultures and students from various schools. The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Higher Secondary School Drass. SDM Drass, Vishal Atri took salute and unfurled the tricolor. During the speech, the chief guest highlighted the achievements of various departments of Drass. The SDM congratulated people of Drass for getting district status. Later, he also highlighted the achievements of Border Roads organization (BRO) for their effective work to keep Zojila pass open till date. Various cultural programmes were also presented by students of various schools of Drass. The chief guest presented prizes to winners of March past, cultural programmes and letters of appreciation to various officials and sportsmen for their outstanding performance. Similar functions were held at other tehsil and sub district headquarters including Sankoo, Drass , Zanskar and Nubra.
