Ladakh admin designates GAD as Nodal Dept for coordinating with New Districts Committee

Srinagar, Oct 03: The Union Territory administration of Ladakh has designated the General Administration Department of the UT as Nodal Department and Administrative Secretary of the Department as the Nodal Officer for overall coordination with the New Districts Committee.

An order issued reads, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the designation of General Administration Department (GAD), UT of Ladakh as the Nodal Department and Administrative Secretary, GAD as the Nodal Officer for overall coordination with the New Districts Committee constituted vide Order no. 444-LA(GAD) of 2024 dated 25.09.2024 to assess various aspects related to the formation of new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh of the New Districts Committee and whose terms,, conditions and other functions have been detailed in Order No. 447-LA(GAD) of 2024 dated 26.09.2024”.

It is pertinent to mention here that Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 26 announced five new districts which include Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang to Union Territory of Ladakh. The decision, according to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was taken with an aim to bolster governance in the region.
