Srinagar, Nov 17: Scores of labourers from various districts of J&K have appealed to the Labour Department to extend the deadline for submitting applications for the Labour Scholarship Scheme for students of primary as well as higher education.

The applicants said they have already taken up the matter with Chairperson J&K Labour Board, requesting an extension in the last date as many labourers are unable to complete the required formalities on time.

According to them, a large number of labourers are still awaiting the issuance or renewal of essential documents, including labour cards and revenue certificates, which remain pending in several labour offices across the region.

“Without these documents, our children cannot apply for scholarships. Many families depend on this assistance to support their children’s education,” the labourers said.

They urged the authorities to consider the genuine difficulties faced by labour households and grant an extension for submission of scholarship forms to ensure that eligible students from economically weaker backgrounds do not miss out.

“We request the Labour Department to extend the date for both school-level and higher-education scholarship applications so that all deserving students get an equal chance,” they said.
