KVK Srinagar, SKUAST-K organise skill entrepreneurship program on fruit trees’ canopy management
Srinagar, Oct 30: To impart and equip youth and the fruit growers of the area with scientific pruning skills and enhance practical horticultural understanding, KVK Srinagar in collaboration with Division of Fruit Science FOH launched week long an awareness-cum-training programme on plant architecture and canopy management of fruit trees at experimental farm,under the ages of Directorate of Extension SKUAST K.
The initiative aims to promote skill-based learning, entrepreneurship, and sustainable production of quality fruits to meet the challenges of global markets. Emphasising experiential learning, on the occasion Head KVK Srinagar Dr S.A.Simnani and Dr AS Sundoori (Incharge Farms DoFS Shalimar) deliberated on the principles of pruning in relation to their fruit bearing habit and demonstrated on field “Hands on training on tools and pruning methodology of diverse fruit crops” to direct the plant growth towards a desired shape and optimize crop load, said a press release

The experts on the accession emphasize that proper pruning proper pruning simplifies orchard management activities such as spraying, thinning, and harvesting and other cultural operations.
By integrating modern scientific approaches with traditional knowledge, KVK Srinagar empowers apple growers to adopt climate-resilient, sustainable, and profitable orchard management practices. The said skill training initiatives also motivate rural youth toward self-employment and entrepreneurship development in horticulture to secure their livelihood and employment generation besides enhancing sustainable productivity of quality fruits of our orchards .
