KVK Srinagar empowers agriculturists with natural farming techniques
Srinagar, Mar 27: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Srinagar concluded its first round of a comprehensive five-day training programme on Natural Farming, targeting Krishi Sakhis and Community Resource Persons (CRPs) from the Harwan block.
The valedictory event, held at the Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-K, marked a significant milestone in promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
A statement said that the event was attended by prominent agricultural experts and officials, including Prof. Raihana Habib, Director of Extension, who served as the chief guest. Prof SA Simnani, Head of KVK Srinagar, presided over the ceremony, alongside other distinguished guests including Prof. Poonam Parihar from SKUAST-J, District Nodal Officer for Natural Farming Syed Gulzar, and Dr. Liyaqat Ali.
In her keynote address, Prof. Raihana Habib emphasised the critical importance of transitioning to a Natural Farming system. She articulated a vision of agricultural sustainability that goes beyond immediate productivity, focusing on regenerating soil health, restoring agricultural ecosystems, and building climate resilience for future generations.
The Director commended KVK's efforts and urged stakeholders to establish model demonstration farms of Natural Farming under the National Mission for Natural Farming (NMNF) Scheme. Her call to action highlighted the potential of such initiatives to showcase the benefits of chemical-free agricultural practices.
Dr. Simnani, in his welcome address, underscored the urgent need to reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. The training program aimed to equip Krishi Sakhis with practical skills and knowledge to transition towards more sustainable farming methods.
