Srinagar, May 28:   To bolster employment prospects for students across the valley, the Department of Management Studies at the University of Kashmir organised a mega job fest on Tuesday in collaboration with CT University, Punjab.

The event, titled "KASPUN 4.0," brought together various national and Jammu & Kashmir-based companies, offering over 1,500 job opportunities across Kashmir and India.

The officials behind the initiative aimed to provide an on-campus platform for young students, enabling them to explore career opportunities and pave the way for their professional growth from an early stage. With a diverse range of companies from various sectors participating, the job fest promised to open new avenues for students to showcase their talents and secure promising roles.

Over twenty leading companies from diverse sectors such as IT, finance, marketing and healthcare participated in the job fest to recruit talented individuals for various roles, contributing to the employment landscape of the region.

Terming the event a “significant initiative” during the inaugural session, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan said that placement of students is KU’s main concern as “we are committed to ensure our talented youth are well placed across sectors and around the world”.

“It is our responsibility to tap their talent and train them with the required skills by providing them ample opportunities and making them industry-ready,” she asserted, adding that the varsity is pooling in resources to ensure youth receive the required training and exposure for a fertile launchpad.

Chancellor, CTU, Sardar Charanjit Singh Channi, delineated the distinction between a successful career and a successful life. He said: “Today’s youth need to understand the difference between information and education and between connection and relation,” adding that they should always listen to their parents and teachers to lead successful lives.

Pro-Chancellor, CTU, Dr Manbir Singh, said that by facilitating interactions between job seekers and top recruiters, “this event is set to significantly enhance the employability skills of the participants and strengthen university-industry relationships”.

Vice Chancellor, CTU, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that the aim is to create a platform where youth are ready to take a new journey and touch new heights. “Our youth are the resource we have and we need to diligently invest in fresh talent and support regional development,” he added.

KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, said that the idea is not only to provide job opportunities but to empower youth with the required skillset to become future employers and company owners.

“We cannot rely on the government sector only for jobs or employment. We need to encourage youth to move out and look for good job opportunities,” he said.

Head,Department of Management Studies, Prof Bashir Ahmad Joo, while introducing a concept - ‘PAIR: Placement, Academics, Infrastructure and Research, said: “There has been a paradigm shift in management studies as we cannot work in isolation and uphold the legacy of ensuring jobs to our graduates.”

Faculty, Management Studies, Dr Qurat ul Ain Shah conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session while Placement Officer, Muhammad Ayoub Shah, proposed the formal vote of thanks.

Shah said that many potential companies will participate in Kaspun 4.0 mega job fest 2024, including Tech Mahindra, Indigo, Lenskart, PAYTM, Siddhi Infonet India Pvt Ltd, Ujala Cygnus Hospital, Urban Money, and others.
