KU’s IoT holds awareness prog on cybersecurity in the age of AI

Srinagar, Oct 31: The Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus, University of Kashmir (KU), organised a two-day awareness programme on “Cybersecurity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” at the university’s Main Campus, aligning with the observance of global cybersecurity awareness month.

The programme aims to raise awareness and build capacity among students, researchers, and professionals on emerging challenges in cybersecurity, particularly in the context of rapidly evolving AI-driven technologies, said a press release.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said that technological progress must be accompanied by strong awareness about cyber ethics and data safety.

“As AI becomes deeply integrated into our lives, understanding cybersecurity is essential for responsible digital citizenship,” she said, adding that the varsity is committed to preparing its students to navigate the digital world safely, responsibly, and with critical awareness.

Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing cybersecurity challenges, noting that awareness programmes like this help bridge the gap between technology and policy.

DIG Traffic Kashmir, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood (IPS), highlighted the growing threat of cybercrimes in the digital era and urged students to act as informed digital citizens who can identify, prevent, and report such crimes responsibly.

Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, said that the university is committed to promoting digital literacy and resilience among its stakeholders and emphasized the need for continuous learning to keep pace with evolving technological threats. Earlier, in his welcome address, Director, IoT Zakura Campus KU, Prof. Tariq Banday, said that the programme seeks to equip participants with practical knowledge on AI-based cybersecurity tools, threat detection, and preventive mechanisms.

The two-day event includes expert sessions and interactive discussions by cybersecurity professionals and academicians focusing on AI applications, digital privacy and protection. The inaugural session was attended by various heads of departments, faculty members, scholars, and students from both the Main and Zakura campuses.
