Kupwara’s Lashtiyal Potpora village faces 3rd transformer failure within a month
Kupwara, Nov 22: Lashtiyal Potpora village in the Kalaroose area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been without electricity for the past several weeks as the electric transformer has been damaged thrice in a month, resulting in the overall area plunging into darkness.
The residents said that for the last several weeks, they have been suffering due to lack of electricity.
They said that they need to travel to nearby villages to charge their mobile phones and other electric appliances.
The residents demanded the upgradation of the transformer at the earliest.
They said that the transformer got damaged thrice since the start of winter, resulting in the overall area plunging into darkness.
The residents urged the authorities to review the consumer distribution among transformers in their locality to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of the load, preventing transformers in the village from being unduly overburdened.
They said that 140 households were dependent on a 100 KV transformer, which, according to them, was the main reason for frequent damage to the transformers.
Meanwhile, an official of the Power Development Department (PDD) said that due to overload, the transformer had been damaged thrice.
He said that non-judicious use of electricity was the main reason behind the damage to transformers.
The PDD official appealed to the people to use electricity judiciously.
“On average, Rs 40,000 is spent on repairing a single damaged transformer. People need to think about it and use electricity judiciously. We have dispatched a new transformer to the village and hopefully, electricity to the village will be restored on Saturday,” he said.
