Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women inaugurated

Kupwara, July 11: Police in Kupwara Thursday held an inaugural ceremony of the Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for women at the Sports Ground, DPL Kupwara. The Tournament has been organized under the aegis of the Civic Action Programme.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Shobhit Saxena was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara emphasised the importance of the initiative in promoting women’s sports and creating opportunities for young female athletes.

Pertinently eight teams from across the district are playing in the tournament. The inaugural match saw Growth Sports Academy triumph over Drugmullah Strikers. Chasing a target of 90 runs in 10 overs, Growth Sports Academy won by 7 wickets. Aiman Bashir was the standout performer, scoring 67 runs and taking 1 wicket, earning her the Player of the Match title.

The event was also attended by G M Bhat Additional SP Kupwara, Amin Bhat DySP Headquater Kupwara, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq DySP DAR Kupwara, along with other officers and officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services.
