Kupwara, July 20: The Kupwara Police Cricket Tournament for Women came to an exciting close on Saturday at the Sports Ground, District Police Lines Kupwara. The tournament, which began on July 11, saw participation from eight women’s teams across the district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shobhit Saxena, presided over the event as the Chief Guest, presenting trophies and cash prizes to the winning and runner-up teams. In his address, SSP Saxena highlighted the significance of this initiative in promoting women’s sports and creating opportunities for young female athletes. He assured that Kupwara Police would continue to organize such events in the future to provide a platform for young women to showcase their talent.

The final match saw Growth Sports Academy emerge victorious over Lolab Stars, winning by 7 wickets. Growth Sports Academy successfully chased down a target of 105 runs in 10 overs, demonstrating their skill and determination.

Aiman Bashir stood out as the star performer of the match, scoring an impressive 57 runs and taking 2 crucial wickets. Her outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match title. Furthermore, Bashir’s consistent excellence throughout the tournament, accumulating 257 runs and taking 5 wickets, secured her the prestigious Player of the Tournament award.

The winners, Growth Sports Academy, were awarded a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up, Lolab Stars, received ₹15,000 and a trophy.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Additional Superintendent of Police Kupwara Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq, DySP DAR Kupwara, along with other officers and officials from the District Police and District Youth Sports and Services.

This tournament marks a significant step in promoting women’s cricket in the Kupwara district, providing a platform for local talent and encouraging more women to participate in sports. The success of this event is likely to pave the way for more such initiatives in the future, contributing to the growth of women’s sports in the region.
